Few years back it was the ‘in-thing’ to get as many backlinks as possible. Again, Google woke up to this backlink frenzy and changed their algorithm to suit. Only those who work for Google on the algorithm will know the 200 signals. Lets face it, if we all knew what these 200 signals were, we’d all be running these on our sites.
Don’t forget Google need to make money as well, last year they made $1 billion in profit. So, they need to show websites which are current and relevant at the top of their search query whilst providing laser targeted ad campaigns, (the ones displayed on the right hand side) to generate income. You may be surprised to learn, 97% of Google’s revenue is from advertising. Hopefully you can understand why Google need to protect their search engine from non ethical SEO practices.
